Why we need to reflect on practice?

By engaging in reflective practice, we demonstrate:

  • A willingness to learn from what happens in practice
  • Being open enough to share elements of our practice with other people
  • A belief that it is possible to change and continue to improve as a practitioner
  • The ability to describe in detail before analysing practice problems
  • The ability to articulate what happens in practice
  • Being honest in describing clinical practice to others
  • Not being defensive about what other people notice about our practice
  • Being courageous enough to act on reflection
  • Working out solutions to personally action what has been learned
  • A belief that there is no end point in learning about practice
